Today’s Update: Whale Watching in Western Australia – An Unforgettable Orca Encounter

Welcome to our latest update on whale watching in Western Australia with an unforgettable orca adventure. Today, we experienced an extraordinary display of nature’s brilliance that left us in absolute awe.

Unforgettable Thrilling Encounter with El Notcho and His Gang

To begin with, our original orca crew in Australia overtook the hotspot today. Moreover, El Notcho and his gang scouted the seas in an impressively widespread manner. Consequently, the pod gathered into an echelon formation on multiple occasions, and as a result, we were excited as if they were gearing up for a hunt. Notably, the dives progressively grew longer and deeper, reflecting their increasing hunger. This was truly an unforgettable moment that set the stage for the day’s adventures.

Playful Juveniles Steal the Show

Furthermore, the juveniles never cease to amaze us. For instance, Slater and Oreo were beyond playful as they arched gracefully through the swell and down toward our stern. In addition, they rolled onto their sides to get a closer look, and naturally, everyone on board wailed and waved in delight. This playful behaviour was simply unforgettable, adding an extra layer of excitement to our day at sea.

Unforgettable Majestic Presence of El Notcho

In addition, El Notcho remains one of the most impressive apex males in our encounters. Impressively, he measures nearly 9 meters in length and weighs an astonishing 9 tonnes. Furthermore, his size and power were unmistakable as he effortlessly broke through the chop. His towering 2-meter dorsal fin stood as one of the most rigid and high-scaling towers in the entire canyon, symbolising his dominant presence. Clearly, this was another unforgettable highlight of our experience.

Six Years of Remarkable Encounters

Since our first encounter over six years ago, our journey with El Notcho’s pod has been filled with rewarding moments. For example, Cookie’s calf, Oreo—one of the first-ever witnessed calves—is now a lively 5-year-old. Additionally, it is incredibly rewarding to watch these magnificent animals develop, hunt, and thrive in such pristine conditions. We eagerly await the day when Oreo transitions into adulthood and raises her own young.

Seasonal Highlights and Future Adventures

Finally, as the season reaches its halfway point, we take a moment to reflect on our past encounters and look forward to what lies ahead. Not only have we witnessed nature in its rawest form—ranging from the takedown of a large beaked whale to an orca ingesting sunfish for the first time globally—but we also anticipate more unforgettable experiences in the days to come. With Augusta Whale Watching Month on the horizon, our excitement continues to grow.
