The Ultimate Perth to Bremer Bay Road Trip

Day 1: Perth to Pemberton

3 hr 47 min (325.8 km) via State Route 2 and National Route 1

Your journey begins by heading south from Perth towards Pemberton, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of the Karri Forest. Follow the scenic South Western Highway and stop at Serpentine Falls for a refreshing break along the way.

Once in Pemberton, a historic timber and milling town, you will find everything from cosy cafés and scenic trails to breathtaking national parks. Whether you are exploring local art, joining a guided tour, or relaxing with family-friendly activities, there is something for everyone.

For thrill-seekers, climbing the iconic Gloucester Tree is a must—although the ladder climb is currently closed. It is scheduled to reopen at the end of 2025. Alternatively, enjoy the exciting zip lines and high ropes at Aerial Adventure, located at the same site. Climbers can still scale the Bicentennial Tree to its midway platform for incredible forest views.

Day 2: Pemberton to Denmark

2 hr 10 min (186 km) via National Route 1

The next morning, continue your journey through the South West as you head towards Walpole, a town surrounded by natural wonders. Known for the Valley of the Giants and Nornalup Inlet, Walpole is a peaceful haven perfect for fishing, camping, and exploring.

Be sure to visit the spectacular Tree Top Walk, a suspended bridge offering sweeping views of the ancient Tingle Forest. You should also see the Circular Pool and the tranquil Walpole-Nornalup Inlet before continuing east.

Soon, you will arrive in the charming town of Denmark. As you travel along the Southern Ocean, stop at the mesmerising Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks. Here, turquoise waters, white sands, and granite boulders shaped like elephants create a picture-perfect scene. Denmark also offers an artistic flair, with galleries and studios ready to explore.

Day 3: Denmark to Albany

46 min (54.9 km) via National Route 1

From Denmark, continue your coastal drive to Albany, a town steeped in history and maritime heritage. Along the way, enjoy sweeping ocean views and rugged coastal scenery.

While here, explore the dramatic coastline at The Gap and Natural Bridge, where the power of the Southern Ocean is on full display. Afterwards, step back in time at the National ANZAC Centre and reflect on the region’s wartime legacy. To end the day, visit Albany’s Historic Whaling Station for a deeper understanding of the area’s whaling past.

Day 4: Albany to Bremer Bay

1 hr 57 min (179.2 km) via National Route 1 and Borden-Bremer Bay Rd

Your final stretch takes you to Bremer Bay, a quaint coastal town and hidden gem on WA’s south coast. This two-hour drive passes through beautiful landscapes, including the incredible Fitzgerald River National Park, home to rare flora and fauna.

Upon arrival, unwind with a visit to one of Bremer Bay’s white sandy beaches—Short Beach is a local favourite. Settle in and get ready to explore everything this peaceful seaside town has to offer.
