AFTERNOON DELIGHT

Orca Whale Watching

The orca showed how tumultuous and wild they can really be today. They are predictably unpredictable and we are constantly leaving the canyon at the end of the day with more questions than answers!

A friendly pod at the edge of the shelf marked the beginning of today. They came in close on several occasions but seemed preoccupied subsurface. Multiple blows were spied in the distance and on closer inspection it was the bulls Nibbles and El Notcho. They were side by side and as determined as the first pod. A few close passes but they were not hanging around so we looked to the horizon for more Orca!

Urkel and Noosa were only a few hundred metres away with the another 6 orca and we couldn’t believe our luck with the high variety of families today!

The orca energy changed for the better by the afternoon as multiple pods went into tight line formation. Pushing into the swell the orca made sure to give us a show. They breached, belly and back flopped, shot out of the swell sideways, tail slapped and all round were making a scene! A fantastic display of power and playfulness from the Orca meant our passengers were squealing with joy as the four pods plus MORE joined in the hour long festivity. With orca all around it was hard to know where to look but it was as if they were celebrating something? Maybe they had just located a Beaked Whale and were about to make a kill? However they settled so we headed for home with grins as big as our face and memories to share for a lifetime! Stay tune for more Killer Whale Watching updates here!
