The past week delivered a blend of powerful encounters and playful surprises across both Busselton and Dunsborough whale watching tours. From dazzling breaches to unexpected dolphin companions, every moment reminded us of the beauty and unpredictability of marine wildlife. Although strong weather conditions temporarily paused operations mid-week, they also offered a brief rest for the crew before the action resumed. Several tours departed from Busselton during this time, adding a scenic variation to the week.

Monday 11 September – Wild Weather and Wowed Guests

Humpbacks stole the show early, breaching and tail slapping within full view of the boat. Sunshine pierced through the clouds, casting golden light over the ocean and setting a perfect scene for whale watching. dunsborough whale watching The afternoon brought even more action. One particularly energetic humpback kept guests on the edge of their seats with at least ten breaches in under ten minutes—only 50 metres from the vessel. Pectoral slaps and peduncle throws added flair to this unforgettable performance in the bay.

Saturday 16 September – Calm Skies and Celebrated Returns

Whale Watching in Dunsborough After several weather-affected days, we returned to the water with eager anticipation. Departing from Busselton, the morning tour was bathed in sunshine and calm seas. A pod of humpbacks greeted the vessel not long after departure, as if to assure us they had not gone far. Their relaxed behaviour and slow movements reminded us of the magic that awaits after every storm. dolphins Later that afternoon, things began quietly. For 90 minutes, the ocean appeared empty—until a playful pod of dolphins sparked joy and hope. Suddenly, two humpbacks joined the action, following the dolphins and bringing the tour to life. The timing felt like a gift, and spirits soared as passengers enjoyed this unexpected collaboration between species.

Sunday 17 September – Busselton Whale Watching at its Best

Dolphins were the first to greet us, setting a joyful tone early in the journey. Soon after, two cheeky humpbacks approached the vessel and began “mugging” us—circling close, swimming beneath, and even appearing to chase the dolphins alongside the boat. Just as passengers settled into the moment, a third whale exploded into view with a perfectly timed breach, while the other two whales provided a cheeky distraction. This kind of coordinated display is rare and always leaves a lasting impression.
