Minke Madness

whale watching western australia

The weather this week has been a little inconsistent. A few cancelled tours in between the calmest of calm days. No tours over the weekend, but Monday to Wednesday saw amazing, calm weather. We have been so lucky this week with not only our usual humpbacks, but also minke whale interactions.

This week minke whales have been hanging by our boat for over 20 minutes. The minkes were bobbing their heads up and down in the water, diving around and under the boat, and one was seen taking a big gulp under the water. The first sign of the minke whale was a call from the crew which lead to all passengers turning left and right waiting to see where it would pop up, and then it was right beside us! Everyone took their phones out trying to capture the incredible view while it dove around just beneath us. The minke whale gave us plenty of opportunities for photos as it proceeded to show off.

With the minke whales stealing the show, we have still had many amazing humpback displays, and even a blue whale spotting.  Although this  is outside of their typical season down here, it is a great sign to see more and more of the worlds largest animal.

The pictures displayed here were captured by Machi Yoshida.
