Our mother/calf pairs tend to reside in the bay for longer periods than the large bulls and sub-adults. Mum does this to ensure the calf has enough lipids in their blubber for thermoregulation, energy stores and buoyancy for the cooler waters still to come! The encounters we have had with this seasons calves has been INCREDIBLE! The mothers have been so relaxed that it doesn’t take long for her to let the calves come on the inside of her and the vessel. From duck dives at the bow so close we cop the spray to breaches and tail slaps, we have been so lucky! 2018 interactions have been bigger and better than any other season so far! We just hope these beautiful animals intrust the right vessels throughout their migration! An awesome day for whale watching in Dunsborough Western Australia
Energetic Afternoon!
