Black, White and Red

“Another day in the canyon, another beaked whale no longer… in the canyon” – Captain Dundee

We were lucky enough to experience another hunt in which the Killer Whales took down a Beaked Whale. Quite graphic scenes but these apex predators are running on instinct and just doing what they do best!

Wide-eyed looks of astonishment were exchanged between passengers and crew as it was hard to believe what we were actually witnessing…

Not long after the beaked whale was pushed under the surface for the last time a huge blood bubble rose up and stained the blue ocean, we knew it was over for the whale and it was now time for the orcas to feed and then be social!

The water clarity today was mind-blowing which meant the orca could be seen deep below the surface sharing chunks of meat. With cameras endlessly clicking away during the hunt, the shutters were red hot as orca continually brought pieces to the surface to show them off to the ecstatic smiling faces onboard. The whole ordeal soaking up almost four hours!

We will let the photos do the rest of the talking…
