Humpback Whales

Afternoon Delight

Whales were the only things on our mind today as we left the Augusta Harbour.

We were provided with beautiful interactions between a pod of Bottlenose dolphins who weaved in and out of our wake.

Shortly after as we were joined by two humpback whales.

The dolphins played through the waves and wove in and under the whales as they breached.

We enjoyed all of these delightful cetaceans as they entertained us throughout the afternoon.

A cheeky surface by a humpback off the right hand side of the vessel surprised and delighted those onboard.

This was followed up by one of the humpbacks performing a large breach right in front of the boat!

Much to the delight of the passengers and crew.

Breaching Humpback Whales

Humpbacks breach for a variety of reasons including removing parasites embedded in their skin.

Other times it helps shed dead flaky skin and you see the size of the carbuncles on them even from a distance.

Other reasons for breaching whales is for pure entertainment! Not just for them but for us!

A glorious rainbow appeared after a shower came through. Lighting up the greyness of the sky.

Once again we were able to show our passengers a fabulous experience on the ocean off Flinders Bay.

Wrapping up our first week of the season it was clear to all that we had experienced a successful week of whale watching.
