A Day of Marvels: Big Crowds of Nature

Crowds of Killer Whale Pods

Big Crowds of Sea Birds

As the dawn broke over Fishery Beach, a sense of tranquility mingled with anticipation in the air.

Despite the looming clouds threatening a drizzle, our spirits soared with the promise of adventure.

Departing from Bremer Bay, our destination set southward, toward the majestic cliffs of Point Henry.

The journey began with a hint of excitement as we noticed a gathering of seabirds near Glasse Island.

Australasian gannets, terns, and Flesh-footed shearwaters swirled around our vessel, the Alison Maree.

Black brow and Wandering albatrosses graced the sky with their majestic presence.

It was a bustling scene, signalling that today’s encounters would be extraordinary.

Big Crowds of Orca

Our expectations were exceeded as four distinct pods of orcas made their appearance before noon.

Led by Echo’s pod, swiftly followed by El Notcho’s, and with Nibbles and Digby’s pods not far behind, the ocean came alive with their presence.

Evidence of a recent feast lingered on the water’s surface, heightening our excitement as the sleek forms of the orcas emerged.

Their white bellies and saddle patches gleaming in the water.

What followed was a mesmerising display of unity and coordination as the four pods merged seamlessly.

Embarking on a collective foraging mission.

Beneath the tranquil surface, a silent symphony unfolded, guided by the unspoken language of these magnificent creatures.

More Crowds of Pilot Whales and Dolphins

But the wonders didn’t end there.

A crowded pod of pilot whales graced us with their presence.

Showcasing their social dynamics and communication skills through spy hopping and tail slapping.

Their immense numbers, coupled with the presence of numerous calves, reminded us of the intricate bonds that exist within these lesser-known species.

As the day progressed, our encounters continued to astonish.

A pod of Common dolphins treated us to a thrilling display of bow riding, leaping through the air with infectious joy.

And amidst it all, the serene sight of Australian sea lions basking atop Glasse Island added a touch of tranquility to the bustling scene.

Reflections of a Stunning Day in Nature

As we reflect on the day’s adventures, we’re reminded of the profound beauty and diversity of marine life that graces our shores.

From the majestic orcas to the playful dolphins and the graceful pilot whales.

Each encounter serves as a testament to the importance of preserving and protecting our oceans.

The sun sets as we return to Fishery Beach, we’re left with memories that will last a lifetime.

A reminder of the magic that awaits us when we venture into the embrace of nature.
